Calling all herdsmen and women - we are looking for the top South West herdsperson for 2011. Do you have an outstanding herdsman working for you who you would like to nominate, or are you yourself a hard working herdsman? The award is part of the the 2011 Dairy Show and the South West Herdsperson of Year will be announced at the show which takes place at the Bath and West Showground on the 5th October. This is your opportunity to put forward your recommendations or be recognised personally for all your hard work.
The Award organised by the Royal Bath & West of England Society seeks to recognise excellence in dairy farming. The Award is open to all herdsmen across Bristol, Cornwall, Devon, Dorset, Gloucestershire, Hampshire, Somerset and Wiltshire
Those short listed will be visited by the judges, who will look at all aspects of the herdsperson's job role such as milk cell count, bactoscan, calving pattern, milk yield and margin over purchased feeds.
The overall winner of the competition will receive £500 in prize money and a trophy.
Entries for the competition close 18th August and entry forms are available by clicking here.
